Has the hot weather been stressful for you? Imagine being a new tree next to hot pavement and without enough roots to find water. Now that is stress! In addition to the heat, less than normal rainfall is predicted for the next few weeks.
Therefore, we are at Code Orange for new trees.
We must water our new trees to help them survive.
Weekly watering is what they require.
Remember: Deep watering is essential; small amounts of water may do more harm than good. It’s easy to water a tree, but it must be done correctly to be effective. Click on the “Metro Tree Watering Alert” or see the “Three Ways to Water Trees” video for more information. Both are in the sidebar to the right.
We are very grateful to those who are watering new street trees this summer. You are helping to create a greener, healthier Richmond. Please encourage your friends and neighbors to do so as well.
