Did you know this is a great time to plant trees?
Trees planted in late fall, winter or VERY early spring have more time to settle in and grow some new roots before the stressful warm weather arrives.
On Satruday December 7, tree Stewards and volunteers planted trees in Petronious Jones Park. This well organized project got thirteen large trees in the ground in just 2 hours. The rain today will provide the trees with a good watering to help settle the soil and wet those thirsty roots. Species include red oaks, hackberries, sycamores, London Plane trees and horse chestnuts.
Thanks to the Dennis Fund, True Timber Tree Service, Davey Tree Expert Company, Richmond’s Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities and VCU service learning students for helping to make this project a success.
